I wanted to talk about South African Music Bands today but I've been putting off my 25 Questions for so long that I decided to just introduce a part of that post and then do my 25 Questions. I'll do something more extensive on the music later. Now I have to explain that South Africans, like any country that has a lot of different ethnic groups I suppose, has a very segmented musical preference.
25 Questions
1. Do you have any pets?
4 Fishes, oh that reminds me, clean the tank tomorrow. We had to give our dog away, the most painful thing we're all ever been through. We had him for three months and the youngest and most attached developed asthma. (sigh)
2. Name 3 things that are physically close to you.
My N97, iPhone and landphone....lol, i know right?
3. What's the weather like right now?
clear and chilly, heading straight for winter.
4. Do you drive? If so have you crashed?
I can't remember, I have a box in my brain labeled "Denied & Forgotten" where all unpleasant experiences go. But I don't believe I have.
5. What time did you wake up this morning?
Around 06:00 am.....late to bed, early to rise. I go to sleep and rise up on the same day most days.
6. When was the last time you showered?
Yesterday morning., its 01:17am now. Have to do something about that in a mo.
I never grew up in the township and mine and my children's biggest disadvantage is that we never got to learn to dance properly. And I suppose as a result we also listen to a larger variety of music and so when my children start dancing they get laughed at because they "dance like white people". This used to hurt very much because I love dancing, well it hurt until I decided to sign them up for ballet classes. I know even more "white" but now when someone says why do they dance like that and I lift my my nose in the air and say haughtily :I prefer classical training. This seems to elicitt an "oh wow " response so I'm happy.
And my friends do think I have strange musical tastes, last time I had a party at my house with my black friends, in preparation I went to a music store and said to the guy, I need some music that black people play at parties. He didn't laugh in my face, he looked like he understood my predicament. In the course of the evening I played some less known but fantastic tracks at the party by David Guetta and I was the only one who danced....lol, no one identified with the music.
I'm not the only one who feels like this i'm sure but we are enjoying more and more of each others music. Anyway, here are my favourite South African "white" band groups. It was hard for me to choose which one to give you as an intro as I love all those that I featured on my Music page. But I ended up deciding on my favourite twins from my home town of Cape Town. In fact most of the bands on my Music page featured today are from Cape Town. Its eating all that fish that gets the creative juices going I'm convinced.
