From #1 New York Times bestseller Kresley Cole comes this gripping tale of a battle-maddenend warrior driven by revenge and the Valkyrie temptress who haunts his dreams.

Yet every reincarnation comes with a price, for Aidan is doomed to die when he remembers his past. To save herself from Declan's torments, will Regin rekindle memories of the passion they once shared—even if it means once again losing the only man she could ever love?

My Thoughts
This book gets a 4 star rating for entertainment value. I read it in 2.5 days and that for me is fast because not only am I not a fast reader like that but I have so much happing that reading is really a squeeze but one I opened this book I made sure I found the time. I love it when writers of this genre stretch their imagination to bring something different and thrilling to the table but still make it effortlessly believable, and this is what Kresley Cole does so well in Dreams of a dark warrior.
The story begins with a daughter of a god who is shut out of the "heavenly realm" Valhalla - oh I should mention that the moment you mention vikings in fiction, I am totally lost. I have loved stories about them since I was a little girl. Anyway, the girl, Reginleit a Valkyrie (aka maiden warrior)She falls for a mortal I Aiden, A North-man and also a Berserker - mortal with the spirit of a bear)or rather the mortal falls for her but as you can imagine, fate is against them from the beginning. It is a real adventure seeing all the different supernatural characters playing their part in this novel. You have every paranormal figure imagined featured here, from vampires to witches to demons. You name it, its there.

I don't want to say much more or I'll give it away. If you enjoy paranormal fantasy then this is a must read for you, note it for your 101 fantasy challenge.

What fantasy novel have you found gripping lately, why would you recommend it?

101 Fantasy Reading Challenge (Perpetual)

I've been very weary of joining reading challenges because it means you have to have the time to commit to reading and that for me is a challenge on its own. All that being said when I saw a fantasy oriented challenge, well all my resolve kinda left me.  I found this one on Darlene's blog terribly tempting and so I thought if I put it on my blog you may also be tempted to join me in this madness. Then I might not feel so "whatthehellamIgettingmyselfinto".

This is the list that was originally compiled by Bella (A Girl Reads a Book) and Jo (Ink & Paper). They held a mammoth poll inviting readers to nominate their favorite fantasy books. The list is compiled of all the books nominated and voted for (813 total) in order by number of votes. The top 101 are in italics. For a pdf version of this list, click HERE. For a pdf of this list in alphabetical order, click HERE.

To sign up for the challenge, click HERE and don't forget to take the fantasy badge on the sidebar.

(The numbers to the right of the titles indicate how many votes each title received. A zero means that the book was nominated, but did not receive any votes)

Hope is the Thing with Feathers

Hope is the Thing with Feathers
By: Emily Dickinson

"Hope" is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land
And on the strangest sea,
Yet never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

Meme Moment

I've been tagged by The Character Depot and here are the questions in this meme:

If you could go back in time and relive one moment, what would it be?
My first date with my husband, it was the most perfect in I've ever had.

If you could go back in time and change one thing, what would it be?
All early twenties decisions.

What movie/tv character do you most resemble in personality?
I think Karen Walker in Will & Grace.

If you could push one person off a cliff and get away with it, who would it be?
Oh I know who that is and I'd feel no qualms, he deserves every stone bash and bush prick on the way to the bottom. LOL

Name one habit you want to change in yourself.
I get too many things going at once and then procrastinate over all.

Describe yourself in one word.
Bubbly

Describe the person who named you in this meme in one word.
Loving

Why do you blog? Answer in one sentence.
I needed an outlet to start communicating with people. I'm terrible at maintaining physical relationships. The internet is the perfect medium and blogging have given me great friends to share life with.
I think that's all evolving though, I'm entertaining thoughts of promoting authors on a more regular basis.

Who am I tagging?

Schwarzenegger's love child or a few

From me to Arnie's kid/s

Silently he pleads to all

In muffled sniffles and snorts

But no one cares to hear a word,

He should be seen not heard,

Only sticks and stones my boy

You know that tigers don’t cry

Silently he whiles aways, a soul less whole each day

I don't know that woman...lol (where is Lie To Me)
I've tried to ignore this sordid business, truly I have but I have my limits and decided to just have my say about something that just refuses to be last weeks news. I just caught a glimpse of a headline in one of our local papers captioned: How Many Children Arnie. The word children caught my attention.

I don't know who spoke first or how this came to light and everybody is going on about the wife, whom in my opinion may have suspected her husband at some point of being a delinquent debaucher and decided to ignore the possible philanderings for reasons best known to her. But what about these kids whose lives are being ripped apart. In the article below this father found out from the media that his 13 son wasn't his son (Here). How is this poor boy going to cope.
Can he help it that his scandalous rascal of a biological father was helping himself on the help, can the other possibles children whom I assume the gossip mongers are working hard at unearthing, help it? These are life defining issues for these children and they've become gossip column fillers and water station conversation openers. I pity this or these kids..... sad, truly sad.....
'Betrayed': Rogelio Baena was named as the father of his ex-wife's Mildred's 13-year-old son on the boy's birth certificate, and claims he only learnt a week ago that the boy was his biological son.
"I feel so betrayed': Mildred Baena's ex-husband had 'no idea' his son was Arnold Schwarzenegger's love child

The ex-husband of Mildred Baena has spoken out for the first time about her affair with Arnold Schwarzenegger, revealing he had 'no idea' his son was actually the actor's lovechild.
Rogelio Baena was named as the father of his ex-wife's 13-year-old son on the boy's birth certificate, and claims he never doubted that the boy was his biological son.
He learnt the truth just last week, when news broke of Schwarzenegger's love child.
In an emotional interview Rogelio said he feels 'betrayed' and claims 'Arnold Schwarzenegger for me, [was] my hero... Maria [Shriver] is destroyed forever."

The Irish Pig

It was really my desire to post something you would find worthwhile reading today but alas, the body rejects that notion.  I was up all night working on a new company website as blogger has completely lost my company blog after I purchased a domain name for it from them. I've given up all efforts to retrieve it.
Some of you may have noticed that the link on the training page on this blog does not lead you to the Ewurum Consulting blog any longer. Its been a 6 week long futile battle and I've lost. At any rate, the world must go on and I must roll with the punches.
And so before I call it a night now at 20:30pm here in SA, I wanted to post something that I found worth reading today. And so until the morrow, when next our eyes shall met......enjoy this fun gift from Anonymous.

'Twas an evening in November,
As I very well remember,
I was strolling down the street in drunken pride,
But my knees were all aflutter,
So I landed in the gutter,
And a pig came up and lay down by my side.

Yes I lay there in the gutter
Thinking thoughts I could not utter,
When a colleen passing by did softly say,
"Ye can tell a man that boozes
By the company he chooses" -
At that the pig got up and walked away

                                    (Are you smiling yet?)

Thelma and Louise Turns 20

This is one of my all time favourite movies, I have to watch it again so Friday night is sorted for me.
Fabulous.

LET'S KEEP GOING_20 YEARS LATER-----Head on over to Roland's-----What do actresses Holly Hunter, Frances McDormand, Jodie Foster, Michelle Pfeiffer, Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn have in common?

They were all considered for the roles of Thelma or Louise in the now classic film released 20 years this May.

Art Thou Art is Here

I have finally put up some of the art work from South African painters and am hoping that you will enjoy looking at them as much as I do and perhaps even be seduced to unburdening that wallet you’re dragging around. I love books merely for containing words which create worlds within worlds, refer to my post on this topic HERE. And from my love of books came my interest in art too, it is no exaggeration that a picture speaks a thousand words.
Cape Dutch by Helena Mummen
@ Frame It. SOLD to me @ R850 / $122
There are pictures and paintings I can get lost in for hours for the abundance of possibilities. In fact I think pictures are not only a source of inspiration but the creation of a good book. It is they that, long after having finished reading a book,  keep nudging at my memory relentlessly, insisting that I revisit certain books over and over again. This art form also tends to be subject to multitudinous interpretations. Have you ever seen how you can look at a picture and get a specific interpretation or have certain emotions evoked and yet for another the effect will be equally profound but, completely different?  Paintings are kind of like the Chick Lit’s Fridge Game, they are great tools for developing characters and storylines as they themselves are a story being told.
For these and more such stories please check out my ART THOU ARTpage for inspiration and aesthetic appreciation. Feel free to contact the art dealers at the contact details given at the end of this page. All I ask is that if you interact with any of the dealers or artists as a result of information shared on this blog, that you come back to this post or the art page and tell me/us of your experience. It’s the only way I can tell whether this page is effective or not as primarily, I want to use it as a means of exposing the work of local talent in support of their work. I’d also appreciate general feedback about this page or initiative.
Oil landscape by S. Gornitzka @ Frame It @ R1900 / $274
SOLD to me.
In addition, I want to say something about the art dealers that I'll be featuring bi-weekly:

Sorry Dragana I will come and get a better photo of you. Soonest.

One of my favourite places in Johannesburg is Dragana's framing shop and gallery. She has the most wonderful array of paitings on display at her Frame It studio. To me, her product range is a direct reflection of her eclectic elegance and artistic flair. Everytime I walk in there I feel like a child in a candy store and wish the world were fair and I had all the money necessary to indulge my whims. And you know when you are not conversant with art as I am, you need someone trustworthy to advise you prudently about it because not only might you want to buy for tasteful deco and the possibly investment but you need a practices eye to sus out the shysters as well, every industry has them. You know the one who will paint a copy of something and then claim it is an original, in truth there's nothing wrong with buying a copy, not all of us can afford the Rembrandts and Van Gohs and there are beautiful copies out there. There are two I have my eye on at Frame it but i think it is only ethical that I know upfront what I'm buying. It's important that you not have someone who will sell to you only for the sale but one who will evaluate your tastes and advise you with your best interest at heart. I have found such a person in Dragana and I am grateful. As a result I'll be featuring quite a bit of her merchandise on a weekly bases and the plan is to also do painter reviews so be on the watch.

The Thinker @ Colorit Studio for R4000 / $576.40
More is better and so the other gallery I've decided to feature is the Colour It Studio which is also an art school. I only recently came across this little place and you may remember its name from a previous post entitled: Art & Deco Advise. Stefan the owner is nothing short of genius when constructing works of art with the use of his his preferred brown palletes. I couldn't resist leaving the store with one of his painting that day, no not this one. My heart yearns for it, sadly my pocket doesn't yet agree. I love the creative buzz I found at Colorit, over and above the warm personalities of the owners and teachers. They say artists (mainly writers and painters) are tortured should, I've yet to find truth in this theory.

Please remember to bookmark either this page or the Art page for later visits to the Art Library.

Movies and Current Affairs

Some of my posts are projects in progress so you will forgive me for mentioning them over and over again and this is one of them.
Please support this dream and help make it a reality, be part of the making of the movie, Cleverer. Get all the details on fantastic prizes and such at Shovelling In A Jo Storm or refer to my previous post on the matter.

On a more sombre note, I really don’t know what’s happening with the world lately. You only have to lift up your heard up from a book and look outside your window to see that all have run amuck. For weeks and weeks Japan, Indonesia, Australia, etc have been hit by earthquakes and everywhere you look there are uprisings.
In the first week of April, Swaziland, just 4 hours away from me had a mini uprising that was quickly squashed by the monarchy and supporters but not before we saw that not all is as reported to be in this “fair kingdom”. We are being fed lies while people are oppressed.
Just today our local stations have reported on nothing but the news of how Anton Hammerl (a photo-journalist) was killed 6 weeks ago by Gaddaffi loyalists. The whole while Gaddaffi and sons kept telling lies to the SA and Austrian government saying he was alive and well. I can’t just imagine what this man’s family is through after having been given hope of his return for so long. My deepest condolences to the Hammerl family and to the world of journalism. A hero has been slain, not many of us would venture into war torn places and bring to light the plight of those suffering under tyrannical rule. He did.
And for that, I solute him, getting rid of monstrous entities like Gaddaffi is all the world can now do to make sure his death and those of thousands of others, were not in vain.

Thank You Roland Yeoman

FRENCH QUARTER NOCTURNE
Today I'm sending a shout out to Roland Yoeman. It takes very little to please me...only a kind thought, add aTexan muse and you'll find me in 11Th heaven. Roland saw my comment on Jo Storm (I know her names Schaffer but Storm seems to have stuck with me so.....). On her post I was prattling on about how I had tried to get a hold of his book French Quarter Nocturne in South Africa to no avail. I was going to get it off Amazon when lo and behold the author sent me an Amazon gift voucher for the book. Don't you  just love them Texans and their muses. I've heard about them having big hearts, well now I know. But most importantly I thank his muse, Sam McCord who insisted that Roland send me the voucher in the first place. Where would we be without inspiration. The world would be much darker place than French Quater Nocturne promises it can ever be.....God forbid.
And btw, the French Quarter Nocturne trailer is mind-blowing, it builds such phenomenal suspense I found myself wishing it were a movie. That was really great work.
Oh yes, thank you Roland (that's actually what I meant to say........)

Not enough coverage of Congo

Today I just want to encourage everyone to please make extra effort in circulating this post: Congos Past Still Her Present:. We spend a lot of time doing the fun stuff, lets just spend a few moments spreading the word on something that's not so fun. If people don't know about this and we don't create a big enough outcry, these women will never get out of hell.
So please spread the word:

Congos Past Still Her Present

Gynaecologist Denis Mukwege, of Bukavu's Panzi hospital, rang his friendChristine Schuler-Deschryver, a human rights worker in the town. He said he had started to see injuries he had never seen before – women who had been raped in terrible ways, whose reproductive organs had been wrecked, who were suffering from fistulas between the vagina and rectum inflicted not just by gang rape but also by attacks with sticks, guns, bottles. "I said to Christine, this is new," he recalls. "Their vaginas are destroyed. I couldn't understand what was going on." (Beginnings of Victory, Valentine & Vigina)

Music and 25 Questions

I wanted to talk about South African Music Bands today but I've been putting off my 25 Questions for so long that I decided to just introduce a part of that post and then do my 25 Questions. I'll do something more extensive on the music later. Now I have to explain that South Africans, like any country that has a lot of different ethnic groups I suppose, has a very segmented musical preference.
I never grew up in the township and mine and my children's biggest disadvantage is that we never got to learn to dance properly. And I suppose as a result we also listen to a larger variety of music and so when my children start dancing they get laughed at because they "dance like white people". This used to hurt very much because I love dancing, well it hurt until I decided to sign them up for ballet classes. I know even more "white" but now when someone says why do they dance like that and I lift my my nose in the air and say haughtily :I prefer classical training. This seems to elicitt an "oh wow " response so I'm happy.
And my friends do think I have strange musical tastes, last time I had a party at my house with my black friends, in preparation I went to a music store and said to the guy, I need some music that black people play at parties. He didn't laugh in my face, he looked like he understood my predicament. In the course of the evening I played some less known but fantastic tracks at the party by David Guetta and I was the only one who danced....lol, no one identified with the music.
I'm not the only one who feels like this i'm sure but we are enjoying more and more of each others music. Anyway, here are my favourite South African "white" band groups. It was hard for me to choose which one to give you as an intro as I love all those that I featured on my Music page. But I ended up deciding on my favourite twins from my home town of Cape Town. In fact most of the bands on my Music page featured today are from Cape Town. Its eating all that fish that gets the creative juices going I'm convinced.
