As for the kink in my hair.....
I personally think that's monumental hogwash resultant from brain cell impairment due to excessive drug and alcohol use in his youth and old age with is in turn turning him into a cantankerous old geezer. Which can be forgive I suppose.
I was reminded of this episode today as I undid my hair and did the conditioning treatment bit. Afterwhich I tried to comb and style and after 15 minutes of this it became quite clear that I wasn't gonna win Mess SA/Naija so I just threw up my wide tooth comb in exasperation. My hairdresser can only accommodate me tomorrow and so I am left with a full 24 hours of unsexy.
Thank God my husband isn't around otherwise i'd be hearing the usual "m'bweke" comments (note! this is an Igbo (one of the Nigerian tribes) term I have adopted but don't know how to spell as yet). I think its a derogatory term for someone from the backwaters of some backward village. Somebody looking something like this:
I'm sure you can see my dilemma and will ampathise with my "OhI'msoFatandUgly" feeling today. Hopefully the situation will be much improved tomorrow.
But don't let me have the last word on this as I wait anxiously for my long tresses to find their way to my head and feel halfway female again, never mind fabulous. What do your prefer, natural or how shall I put this....... tastefully acquired?

Ya know, I wore my hair natural (cane rows, etc.)for five years and then I gave in and processed it. Boy did I make a mistake. Since then I've cut and processed it down to near nothing. Then I wore afro kinky extensions for a while. Since February, I've stopped putting anything in. Well, except beeswax and peroxide.
ReplyDeleteAfter I wash, what works for me is to put moisturizer in before and after I use a hair dryer. The hair dryer makes the hair clump less. :D
Now I twist and go! Still, what one does with ones hair is a personal choice.
Sexy and attractive is from within. At least that is what I tell myself when I look in the mirror!
ReplyDeleteNo one is satisfied when they look in the mirror. It is a simple fact of human nature. Sigh. It's hard being human -- or kind to yourself sometimes.
Perhaps The Father just wants us to accept ourselves for who He shaped us to be and do the same for those around us. Easy to say. Oh, so hard to do! Roland
I think you look gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteBut, yes, what we do with our hair or otherwise, is a personal choice.
These are such wonderful comments.
ReplyDeleteOh J.L, To be a woman of African descent.
@ Roland _ I agree with you 100% re. the Father wanting us to love ourselves as we are because he made a masterpeice, I widh my head would tell me that enough times.
@ M Pax, you are simply the best. Thank You.
