L is for Legal Matters

This one is for the novice blogger like me.
I've often be worried about the privacy/copyright issues surrounding my work online and have wondered how could I protect it.
In this regard I enquired with fellow blogger Myne Whitman for advise and she pointed me in the right direction which was Creative Commons but then my effort stopped right there, I never actually followed up on that.
But last night I came across What makes a blog which had an article explaining how to go about licensing your blog work. They create a copyright licence for you for free and host it. To see what it looks like look at mine at the bottom of the page. To create yours, use this link How to Copyright Blog to Prevent Plagiarism? It very simple, they do a great job at explaining the "how" of it and I think they are wonderful for doing this.
Of course once I started on this I also had to see what else could be on offer and I assume if you're more serious about your blogging activities you may also be worried about nasty people copy pasting your work. I found another site that deals with the same matter and this one comes highly recommended even by Creative Commons: http://www.copyscape.com/ - Its not an entirely free service but I think it's worth your money. The only free part is the one where you can instruct it to search for your post /page content over the net by submitting your URL. This way you can then request that the plagiariser's work be removed. Quite handy I think. I hope this helps, if you have even better advise or software to point us to, please feel free to add your bit. Legal stuff I don't find sexy but they are like insurance.....as exciting as a funeral but if you don't do it you're bound to end up with your face in the dirt.......

  2. Leovi I apologise for the horrific errors. My hubby and I went out last night and suffice to say today is not a good day for my head.

  3. The copyscape sounds like a great idea, especially for finding out those who have copied already. Thanks for sharing this.
